Come one, come all! It is time for the reveal for the 2023 music classroom tour! You, dear reader, are invited to see some of the things I’ve written about pre-action. Below, you will find a few photos of some of my favorite spots in the music room. Welcome to the big music room reveal of 2023! Here is a quick “before” photo:
Classroom Management
In this post, I discussed the large guitar and the game piece to be moved. Here is the alternative for this year. Each grade gets their own keyboard. Since my school is dual language track, we have a few French classes, and together they get their own keyboard. The crayons that are stuck on the door beside them are the game pieces. Each classroom has their own room number written above the crayon. They will all start on the left side of the piano and move up each class.
This previous post describes the conductors of the day. Here is the board set-up, some responsibilities and perks of being a conductor.
Some Instrument Storage
This is a view of our boomwhacker storage and our mini-music library. To demonstrate which notes we use and when, the Solfege is easily removable so I can manipulate the order. Another feature includes Ikea hangers which are also on 3M hooks which allow me to take down the whole container. The carts with the different drawer colors will become our recorder and kazoo keepers for each class. I’m planning to make numbered labels for each student to share a draw. More about this later.
On the opposite wall, I have a xylophone bulletin board, which I created last year. Similarly to the boomwhackers, the bars are also moveable which helps the students see which bars we are using. The Musical Elements wall will have things posted as we discuss concepts throughout the year. The bins in the shelf are hand-in bins and the red hanger holds copies of worksheets that we are practicing with. The light panel on top of the shelf fits posters which switch throughout the year. The organ has the conductor responsibilities posted and the giant cupboards on the left have curriculum outcome posters.
The Main Attraction
At the front of the room is my brand new smart board! To the left of my computer cart is the conductor board. You can see the carpet that I created a digital seating plan for which you can see in this post. The shelf on the right of the board holds several containers. The green and red are for students who require additional support such as motor-friendly instruments, ear mufflers, fidgets or other things like that. Our support staff can access those bins whenever they need to; I always make sure to have items swapped out depending on my plans. The middle shelf is our paper holder. The top is blank paper, middle is scrap paper, and the bottom is “music” paper, where I keep different types of blank staff paper. I find this to be great for centers to encourage composing.
I have a few other gems to show you, but you will find those in a video, coming soon to my brand new YouTube channel!
