It can be pretty overwhelming thinking about back to school… especially when you’re not ready for it. However, with the season fast approaching (or already starting), organization must be key. If you’re a music teacher or not, make back to school easy with these tips! Tip #1: Get. A. Planner. Start by getting a planner and marking down holidays, events, assemblies, anything that is guarenteed to happen throughout the year. If you’ve already recieved your school calendar, mark that down as well. Then figure out which classes belong to which cycle and think about how to prep for that. HINT: think about concerts and mini-performances that occur throughout the year. Use this FREE concert planner to help with that. Tip #2: Do a Brain Dump Get everything that’s in your brain on to paper, whether it’s important or not. It is vital for your sanity that you make space for yourself to mentally organize and relieve that anxiety. From this brain dump, you can create to-do lists, must-do lists, contact lists, delegation lists, schedules, calendars and more. Any kind of paper will work but go an extra step further and put it into a notebook. Check out this fun music-themed printable notebook! Tip #3: Plan Your Decor Before you even set foot in your room, plan where your decor is living, where you want it to be or even if you want to get new decor. You want to prioritize functionality over anything else- decide where you want your furniture and instruments to go as well! Take a look at these expectation posters and visual guides to get you started. Let Mrs. V Help You! Let me help you! Here are some checklists that I use EVERY year (and I’ve been teaching since 2015). It helps my brain to think in a linear funnel so that I don’t get distracted with how much I need to do. It allows me to focus on one thing at a time. I also love a good checklist- it helps me feel so accomplished! I wish you all the best as you get ready for the new school year.
