Best Turkey Games for Fall in Elementary Music

Posted on 10/10/202410/07/2024 by Mrs. V

Fall is a fun and cozy season, especially here in Canada! We love things all pumpkin spice and turkeys. Here are Mrs. V’s best turkey games for elementary music.

Turkey Game #1: Gobble Gobble

This game has easy rhyming words and is great for lower elementary levels. It uses solfge Do-Mi-Sol and begins the conversation about “home tones“. It also features pick-up notes, chromaticism and “syn-co-pa” rhythms. “Gobble Gobble” works great to emphasize down beats for passing games. Another option is to promote inner ear audiation. Turkey Game #2: Turkey Lurkey

A super silly and fun game brought to you by MusicPlay, use this for steady beat! The meter is 2/4 and ends with a quarter rest. This is the perfect opportunity for a “stella-ella-ola” style game. Have students sit in a circle with their right hand ontop of their neighbors hand and their left hand underneath. Pass the clap around the circle- whoever lands the clap on the rest is “out”. Have this student play the beat on an instrument and make sure it’s steady! Click below to download sheet music and lyric slide!

Turkey Game #2

Turkey Game #3: I’m the Fastest Turkey

A simple but fun game to parody duck-duck-goose. This song can also be used as a chant. Perfect for echoes and group singing, the “turkey” going around the outside of the circle sings the call while the group sings the response. Click below to download sheet music and lyric slide!
