The cold seasons are upon us. Out with pumpkin spice and in with peppermint mochas! Music teachers everywhere are fending off germs trying to think about programming their winter concert while writing report cards. To ease some of your burden, below is a list of the best places to find winter musicals for elementary students!
J.W. Pepper
J.W. Pepper is an amazing resource for all music teachers. They have a very wide range of musicals from elementary to high school. My favorites for lower elementary include:
- A Holiday Moosical (Marty Moose wants to learn to fly like the reindeer)
- How to Train Your Reindeer to Fly (Uses several “flying song” parodies such as Danger Zone)
- Star Bucks (Finding a substitute for the over-stressed Rudolph)
Star Bucks is fantastic because everything is digitized. You can print single page songs, display lyric slides, and even learn the choreo from John Jacobson himself!
Alfred Music
Alfred Music is another goldmine. Their specialty is Christmas traditions around the world and throughout time. The highlights are:
- Santa’s Stuck in the Fifties (While cleaning out Santa’s attic, toys, music and more from the ’50s are discovered)
- A World of Christmas (Christmas traditions from 15 different countries)
- ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (and of course, the classic story)
MusicPlay
Music Play is a subscription memeber-based website. Here you will find so many resources from people like Denise Gagnon and John Jacobson. I can’t even pick just one to share. You need to see this for yourself!
Music K-8
I am a huge fan of John Jacobson and the work he does to create accessible resources for music teachers. This website has a complete list of every musical Jacobson has produced. Make sure to check it out!
Over the past few years, these spots have quickly become my favorite resources to find appropriate and accessible musicals for my lower elementary kiddos. Where do you find yours?
